Measure what no machine records.

Some of the most important facts in a foundry are never logged. Nobody records how long a ladle waits, and microstructure ends up on a certificate. Each of these products measures something the plant couldn't easily measure before, and sends it to Foundry Twin.

Floor Master

Much of what decides quality happens between machines: a crane lifts a ladle, carries it, waits, and pours a series of molds. None of it is normally recorded. Floor Master measures it from video.

  • Time from tapping to pouring
  • Time between pours
  • Molds made per hour, shift by shift
  • Which pour filled which mold
  • Crane and ladle movements

Foundry Scope

Done by hand, grading a microstructure is slow, and two people may grade the same image differently. Foundry Scope analyzes microscope images of cast iron and writes the standard reports.

Open Foundry Scope
  • Nodularity, nodule count, and graphite size and form, to ASTM A247, ISO 945, ISO 16112 and ASTM E2567
  • Pearlite, ferrite and carbides, compared with a specification
  • Results placed on the heat, beside its chemistry and treatment

Black Box, the autonomous sand lab

Green sand is usually tested by hand a few times a shift, so a change can pass unnoticed for hours. The Black Box takes samples and runs the standard sand tests automatically and continuously.

  • Moisture, compactability, permeability and strength for each batch
  • The same procedure every time
  • Each result reaches the twin as it's measured
  • The batch-by-batch results that sand control needs

Metallographic Black Box

Preparing a sample takes several steps and a skilled technician. Place a cut specimen in the unit, and it prepares the surface, captures the microscope images and sends them to Foundry Scope.

  • More samples from more sections of a casting
  • Preparation that's the same every time
  • Less dependence on scarce laboratory staff

Versatile smart instruments

The test stays the same, but the result is no longer copied into a register and then a spreadsheet. A plant that already owns Versatile instruments can usually connect them through the V-Sync module without replacing them.

  • Digital permeability meter (VPD)
  • Universal strength machine (VUD)
  • Active clay tester (VMBD)
  • Compactability, moisture and other sand testers
  • Handheld hardness testers, sent through a phone over Bluetooth

Each one is useful alone. Together they answer harder questions.

Do misruns follow long waits between tapping and pouring? Does nodularity fall as the time from treatment to pouring grows? Answering those takes measured times, measured structure and the plant's records in one place.
